All are welcome to attend a free, public talk by Dr. Roger Kligler on “The Death I Want” and medical aid in dying (MAiD). Reservations are not required. Dr. Kligler’s talk will focus on his journey from physician, to patient, to advocate. A discussion and Q & A will follow the talk.
Dr. Kligler is a retired internist with incurable metastatic prostate cancer. For over 30 years, Dr. Kligler practiced in Brockton, where he was an internist and medical director of Goddard Medical Associates and Bridgewater-Goddard-Park Medical Associates. He has extensive experience with end of life care. Since his retirement and move to Falmouth, he has devoted his time volunteering with Compassion & Choices, the nation’s oldest and largest nonprofit dedicated to improving care and expanding options at the end of life. He works tirelessly to educate on medical aid in dying (MAiD) across the Commonwealth and among our legislators to enable passage of this important legislation. Medical aid in dying would give those who are terminally ill with a prognosis of 6 months or less to live the option to obtain a prescription from their physician to self ingest a medication that would provide a peaceful ending, if their suffering becomes unbearable. Dr. Kligler is lobbying for the passage of MAiD legislation known as An Act Relative to End of Life Options and is also suing the Commonwealth for the option of MAiD. Eight states and the District of Columbia currently authorize similar legislation.
