Internationally acclaimed dramatist, social critic, and Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka is an avid collector of African artworks including those from his home country of Nigeria. The Ethelbert Cooper Gallery of African & African American Art at the Hutchins Center in Harvard Square will feature two dozen of these hand-selected pieces in ":WOLE SOYINKA: Antiquities Across Times and Place."
Curated by New York University professor Awam Amkpa, the exhibition places masks, head-dresses, dolls, busts, vessels, weapons and more — made of wood, brass and other materials — in conversation with works by contemporary artists Peju Alatise, Moyo Okediji, Olu Amoda, Chris Abani and Peter Badejo.
