Please join the Boston Public Library in partnership with the Boston Lyric Opera for a discussion of how Terence Blanchard uses the language of jazz to tell operatic stories. Reverend Dr. Emmett G. Price III, Dean of Africana Studies at Berklee College of Music, will lecture on Blanchard’s groundbreaking works, Champion: An Opera in Jazz and Fire Shut Up In My Bones. BLO Artists will present selections from each opera throughout the lecture.

He has spent much of the past few decades writing, lecturing, and conducting cutting edge research on bridging the generational divide. A well-regarded scholar and educator, Dr. Price has the unique ability to capture the hearts and minds of the most diverse and versatile audiences with his compassionate sense of humor, his amicable intellect, and his quick wit. He is a noted print and broadcast media expert, as well as a widely sought-after keynote and motivational speaker.
Opera Night at the Boston Public Library is a legacy community partnership between Boston Lyric Opera and BPL Central offering equitable access to quality opera learning experiences for over 25 years.
