Volunteers will be serving as “Tech Buddies” to lead students in STEM activities. The Tech Buddies will work in small groups to teach students about coding using Osmo software and Ozobots. Volunteers will have an opportunity to practice the activities before the students arrive.
Students will also have the opportunity to serve as volunteers themselves, working alongside their Tech Buddies to create take-home robot kits. Each kit will include the parts and instructions to assemble a simple circuit robot, along with an activity book for playing and learning with the robot. With the assistance of the Tech Buddies students will assemble the kits for their fellow classmates who are unable to attend and participate in the Tech Buddy program. During this session, students will also learn about volunteering, and other ways they and their families can get involved in Boston. Adding in the volunteering component for the youth will demonstrate to them that while they are often the recipients of service, they too can give back to their community as volunteers.
No experience with these activities is needed! Just a love of working with students!
