The Tall Cedars of Lebanon is an appendant Masonic order and is said to be one of Masonry's best-kept secrets. All Masons in good standing are eligible to join.
Tall Cedar Masons have a slogan and philosophy that distinguishes them from other Masonic bodies: "Fun, Frolic, and Fellowship for a Purpose."
This is possibly due to the fact that they combine all of the best aspects of other Masonic bodies: the charitable aspects of the Shrine, the whimsical aspects of the Grotto, the fellowship and camaraderie of the Blue Lodge, a ceremonial initiation ceremony that resembles a Scottish Degree, and, most importantly, a place where Masons can gather in fun and fellowship with their families. The goal of our order is to create chances for members to spend time with family and friends in an enjoyable environment while caring for one another, their families, and themselves.
Tall Cedars are well-known for their appearances in parades and other events, particularly the MDA Labor Day Telethon, where they wear colorful pyramid-shaped hats emblazoned with the order's logo, a cedar tree.
The Masonic tenets of charity, relief, service, and philanthropy are ingrained in every Tall Cedar and Cedarette, as evidenced by the wearing of the pink rose, which serves as a reminder that, in addition to all the colorful fun and celebration, Tall Cedars has a serious purpose, which is to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association in their quest for a cure for neuromuscular diseases.
Their devotion to philanthropy and charity is so strong that in 1951, the Tall Cedars created the Tall Cedars Foundation (TCF) (which is a 501 (c)(3) organization) to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association. They also helped to establish the MDA Telethon, and Tall Cedars representatives have appeared at the annual event to present a check representing their national membership's fundraising efforts. To this date, they have donated over $19,000,000 to this worthwhile cause.
Additionally, The Tall Cedars awards 5 $1,000 scholarships annually to deserving students enrolled in an accredited institution, pursuing a collegiate education, or enrolled in a vocational or technical program.
