Tales of the Back Bay: Art, Architecture & More
Today the Back Bay is a landscape dominated by stately Victorian-era brownstones, a beautifully landscaped avenue, and an embarrassment of architectural riches. But how did the Back Bay come into existence in the first place?
During our 90 minute tour, we’ll talk about the creation of this most regal Boston neighborhood by learning about its development and transformation in the 19th & 20th centuries. Along the way, we’ll stop in at Copley Square, walk down Commonwealth Avenue Mall, and other notable sites as we talk about the distinguishing characteristics and lesser-known corners of these fine precincts. The tour includes stops at:
• Trinity Church
• Commonwealth Avenue
• The Boston Public Library
• Newbury Street
• Copley Square
This tour is led by Max Grinnell, noted Boston author and college professor.
