Aspiration features a series of abstract installations juxtaposing the rich texture and physical gravity of metal with colorful, luxuriant, flowing fabrics. The exhibition relates the artist’s confident freestyle experimentation as Volmer skillfully merges these disparate materials, establishing a counterpoint and inviting conversation about our contemporary cultural moment. Using heat-based technology to alter the metal, Volmer coaxes curves and slumps from the slabs, underlining their weight and the force of gravity. In stark contrast, the airy weightlessness of the fabric creates an animated visual flow. The work is process-driven, rooted in autobiography, and influenced by feminism. Aspiration energizes the space, transforming the Launchpad Gallery into a super-sized vitrine, offering unique material decisions, timeliness, candid insight, and hope. Volmer’s artworks evoke experiential energy sharing a viewpoint about what it is to live and survive in our era.
Suzanne Volmer graduated with Honors from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. Her installations, sculptures, and related drawings are shown in galleries and museums internationally and are represented in both private and public collections. A member of the International Art Critics Association, her writing has appeared in Artscope Magazine, Sculpture magazine of the ISC, and Arts magazine, NY. The artist’s studio is in New Bedford, MA.
