ABOUT COLESCOTT:
Colescott Rubin is a Boston-based award winning bassist/tubist/vocalist, vaudevillian entertainer, dancer, songwriter, and educator. He has performed in many countries, including Argentina, Spain, Iceland, Mexico, & Russia, and with Grammy-winning artists Esperanza Spalding, Patrice Rushen, Catherine Russell, and John Legend, among others. He’s currently on staff at Berklee College of Music, where he graduated on a Presidential Scholarship. His swing band “Colescott & His Red Hots” has the same name as his grandfather’s band from the 1940s, taking inspiration from his great-grandfather, a New Orleans musician who played with Louis Armstrong over 100 years ago. He also tours with his musical family variety act, The Rubin Brothers, which just released its first record on Bandcamp in August. He is appearing on multiple TV talent shows later this year, directing the 8 piece Rubin Bros Brass Band for a major league sports team, and performing in residence with circuses in NYC throughout September 2023 as a unicycling multi-instrumentalist.
ABOUT OUR FEATURED GUEST:
Christopher Vu is a Boston-based composer of acoustic and electroacoustic music for concert hall and stage and a co-artistic director of Pinwheel, an artistic collaborative of musicians and theatre artists that produce original multidisciplinary works. Son of a concert pianist, Chris draws from his diverse influences and interests as a performer, which include being a jazz pianist, a keyboardist in touring funk/rock/pop bands, and being a featured soloist with Boston Pops in a sold out concert event.
Chris has been commissioned by Lincoln Center Education, the Boston Percussion Group, SOLI Chamber Ensemble, [sunflower], and the Vietnamese American Society of Contemporary Art and Music. His music has been performed at Alba Music Festival Festival in Italy, Wintergreen Music Festival in Virginia, and at the Summer Institute of Contemporary Performance Practice (SICPP) in Boston. He most recently premiered with Pinwheel an original shadow puppet production with original music called Magic Pearl which sold out at Lincoln Center.
