Ring the bells that still can ring;
Forget your perfect offering.
There is a crack in everything;
That’s how the light gets in.
Almost three thousand years ago, the Buddha looked for a way to convey insights he had found through meditation practice to students preoccupied with self improvement and self preservation in a world of impermanence and change. He settled on teaching, first, the truth of suffering — as the crack where light can penetrate.
In this half-day retreat, we will practice shamatha (calm abiding) meditation as taught by the Buddha and discuss the Four Noble Truths as an introduction and template for Buddhist practice. Beginners are welcome.
Summer Sessions are in person on Saturdays, 9:30am - 12:30 pm, at the Boston Shambhala Center. These half-day sessions explore various topics related to buddhist study, compassionate action, and/or contemplative life and practice. No experience is required.
