The Mandela Yoga Project Donations-Based Class with Emily Peterson & Tt King
Sunday, June 25
1:30-2:45pm • Brookline & Livestream
This workshop offers white/white passing bodies the opportunity to assess, reset, and recommit to the work of anti-racist embodiment and their own racial understandings.
In our work based within the Mandela Yoga Project, we practice dismantling the imprint of white body supremacy that sits in the body, not the head, and can wield incredible power over us. While we all interact with interlocking systems of oppression uniquely, the focus here will be on the role that the white/white passing body has within the system.
Folks will leave with an experiential understanding of the work of somatic abolitionism. We will practice the important role of yoga in this work. Throughout, we will also play with some of the tools, body based practices —of settling the body in order to work through the discomfort around racial charge.
We will close by internally naming and committing to an intentional practice throughout the next half of the year, addressing discovered growth edges in developing anti-racist embodiment.
Required Props: yoga mat (rentals are available for $3 at the studio)
Suggested Donation: $50 (all donations will benefit the Mandela Yoga Project)
