The Chelmsford Community Band will be in tune with the joyous birdsong welcoming this spring season on Sunday, May 5, in their annual Spring Concert that combines the talents of the Concert Band and the Jazz Ensemble. This concert also features the true star of the day: the annual basket raffle fundraiser. Sections of the band, local crafters, and the businesses of the greater Chelmsford region have donated many fun things attendees can win. Look for the band’s social media presence for sneak peaks. The concert starts at 2pm this Sunday at Chelmsford’s McCarthy Middle School, and the raffle will take place during intermission.
The Concert Band, directed by Eric Linsner, will present a program inspired by Latin dance and themes. The Jazz Band, led by Art Bakopolus, will present swing and jazz numbers and feature Anita Wood and Karen Welling as vocalists.
Admission to this concert is free, but donations are always very gratefully accepted so that the band can continue its work as a 501(c)3 nonprofit bringing music to the greater Chelmsford area. Suggested donations are $10 for adults and $20 for families. If you come hungry, there will be a table of baked goods you can take home for an additional donation.
Having recently celebrated its golden anniversary, the Chelmsford Community Band has a 65-piece concert band and a 20-piece jazz ensemble made of dedicated volunteer musicians with a proud tradition of bringing live musical performances to this community since 1972. They provide indoor concerts throughout the year, perform at Chelmsford’s Independence Day Festival, and can be seen on Chelmsford Common Tuesday nights in July and August. They are supported by multiple Mass Cultural Council grants, including one for Cultural Sector Recovery. Follow them on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter/X, and find them on the web at www.chelmsfordcommunityband.com.
