Traditionally made from a halved English muffin, topped with ham or bacon, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce, Eggs Benedict has been a staple on the American breakfast table dating back to 1894, when Wall Street stock broker Lemuel Benedict ordered “buttered toast, poached eggs, crisp bacon, and a hooker of Hollandaise” at the Waldorf Hotel. The dish was then modified to its traditional version and named after Benedict, thus creating the heavenly Eggs Benedict!
In honor of the classic American breakfast dish, South Street Diner will be serving 14 variations to celebrate National Eggs Benedict Day on Monday, April 16th.
