Zoom is great for talking to people these days, but it can be *so* exhausting, even for extroverts.
That's why we started our online, pay-what-you-want Skip the Small Talks.
They're designed based in psychology research to give you all the warm fuzzy feelings of human closeness, without that feeling of Zoom-fatigue afterward.
SO, WHAT EXACTLY IS ALL THIS?
We use breakout rooms and question prompts to get strangers talking in a way that you might not otherwise get to in a pandemic.
Some examples of our prompts are, "What's something you're proud of that you don't usually get to tell people?"
And, "What’s at least one thing you want more of in your life?" But if you don't like our prompts, you can always make up your own!
And we always start out with the question, "How are you *really* doing?" So that you can talk about whatever's been on your mind lately.
FINE, BUT IS IT AWKWARD/ AS DRAINING AS ALL MY OTHER ZOOM CALLS?
Hard no.
A common piece of feedback we get is that people are surprised at how natural it feels to talk to strangers online at Skip the Small Talk, even for people who generally hate Zoom and even for people who aren't comfortable talking to strangers in other settings (but the people who enjoy talking to strangers in other settings tell us they love Skip the Small Talk, too).
We recently had a guest even brave a 10-hour time difference, and she reached out to say:
"I can't emphasise enough what a perfect end to the weekend this was and what a lovely experience! I'm definitely going to be back for more! Especially during this time of perpetual quarantine, this was such an amazing way to connect with friendly people!"
We also had someone who usually attended our in-person events say, "I’ve been loving the virtual events! I was hesitant to join because I wasn’t sure if everything would be as fun [as your in-person events], but it’s been great."
And one guest recently told us, "I'm... just... shocked. This is literally the first time I've been on Zoom without feeling Zoom-fatigued. How????????"
OK, BUT WHAT IF IT SUCKS ANYWAY?
Well, the nice thing about it being online is that if you want to take a break at any time or leave early, you can always leave the Zoom call at any time.
And if feedback from previous guests offers any insight about what you'll think about Skip the Small Talk online... we really think you'll like it.
So if you're even a little curious about what these are like, we hope we get to have you at one soon.
