Kindness is a quality much needed to soothe the soul in trying times: a world that too often seems cold, cruel, chaotic and constantly changing. After more than two years of pandemic living, a heartbreaking war in the Ukraine, and accelerating inflation, many are feeling burned out, stressed out and unsettled. Linda Marks' new Kindness album, which will be released 6/1/22, offers safe harbor and a healing balm. Kindness is her 12th studio album with two more in the works (Everyday Legends 1/1/23 and A Recipe For Hope). Linda's new single "Let There Be Love," co-written with Mike Greenly was recently released on 5/1/22.
Songs on Kindness draw from social issues ("Be The Light," a prayer to "keep the peace of burning in the heart, humanity," "All One Human Race,"Marks' response to the tragic shooting of George Floyd: "put away your guns, open up your arms, light the flame of justice, love begets love," internet dating, "Virtual Pie In The Sky," and title song "KIndness,"), invite spiritual upliftment ("Between Night And Day," "Uplift Me," and anthem for the global Light Up the Love movement "Light Up The Love"), healing ("Take Me To The River") and the what matters most ("Home" and "Love And Time"). Kindness includes two favorite covers, Clint Black's gorgeous song about healthy relationships, "Something That We Do," and Carole King/Gerry Goffin's classic "Up On The Roof."
Celebrating her folk roots, Marks approached Erik Balkey of Hudson Harding Music, to collaborate on a "folk album." Marks reflects, "I am grateful to Erik and to Glenn Barratt at Morningstar Studios for helping me create Kindness. Erik selected this wonderful collection from Marks' catalogue, including a brand new release, Uplift Me." Listen to Kindness on Soundcloud.com/linda-marks/sets/kindness.
MORE ABOUT LINDA MARKS:
Linda Marks, a contemporary folk singer-songwriter, is a healer at heart, and emotional alchemist whose elegant voice team with piano both tug at our heart strings and inspire hope. Her poignant originals and fresh arrangements of favorite covers are delivered in an intimate heart-to-heart style. Over the past ten years, Linda has played in most of Boston's major venues including Scullers Jazz Club, Club Passim, The Burren, City Winery and Club Café. During COVID19, her weekly Songs From The Heart, Meditations ForThe Heart live stream has attracted a global following.
Linda has been featured on "All Things Considered" on NPR, in Boston magazine and in the Boston Globe. She's co-founder of artist-alliance group #WIMG Women In Music Gathering and has written many songs to benefit community causes, including The Cotta Blue Project, the global Light Up The Love movement and Upstage Lung Cancer. Linda's critically acclaimed pandemic-inspired album Home charted at #18 on the Folk Chart. Kindness is her 12th studio album with two more in the works (Everyday Legends 1/1/23 and A Recipe For Hope). Linda's new single "Let There Be Love," co-written with Mike Greenly was released 5/1/22.
Although her music crosses over many genres, Marks has always been a "folkie at heart". She sang harmony to "This Land Is Your Land" with great joy in kindergarten, and the music of Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger were always close by. At 11, before she could save enough money to buy her own piano, Marks bought an acoustic guitar, started writing songs, and learned chords to accompany herself and others. In folk tradition, Marks and her guitar led her 8th grade class in "Nine Years Is A Lifetime," a song she wrote for graduation.
