“What’s Love Got to Do With It?” In this case, everything. A supergroup of Boston area musicians will pay homage to the legendary Tina Turner, performing a selection of her greatest hits and B-sides from 1960-1999.
Doors at 6:00 p.m.; Music at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance; $25 at the door. The show is all ages.
Hosted by G-Rock Music — gender-inclusive rock experiences powered by women of color — this one-night tribute celebrates the immense talent and example of strength and authenticity that is Tina Turner. To honor her personal journey, and in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, profits from the show will benefit Stone House of Roxbury, Mass., “where domestic violence victims find the strength to become survivors.”
Simply the Best is co-produced by Kameelah Benjamin-Fuller and Christina Alexander, co-founders of G-Rock Music. Alexander and photographer/multiple tribute band musician Joshua Pickering, serve as musical directors. Three powerhouse “Tinas” (Benjamin-Fuller, Alexander, and Ananda Mitchell [Ripcord]) rotate lead vocals supported by “The Tinettes,” Danielle Miraglia and Erica Mantone. The band features Josh Kantor (Red Sox organist), Mike Levesque (David Bowie), Tom Bianchi (Baker Thomas Band), Erica Risti (Tiny the Bear), Michael Christman, and Pickering.
A testament to Tina’s musical and altruistic prowess, this tribute aims to be an uplifting, high-energy night of music, dancing, and reminiscence. So, “Let’s Stay Together” and “Show Some Respect” for the Queen of Rock and Roll!
