The Guild of Boston Artists is proud to present "Elements Unveiled: A Journey Across Land and Sea," a solo exhibition of landscape paintings by Scituate artist Sergio Roffo. The exhibit will hang in the Guild's Newbury Street gallery from November 4th- December 2nd.
Sergio Roffo’s work captures the fleeting interplay of light and shadow as their shapes dance harmoniously across the breathtaking vistas of New England and its coastlines. Taking nature as his anchor, Roffo's profoundest desire is to monumentalize her ever-changing intricacies and to evoke an overall sense of serenity for the viewer. Working en plein air within the landscape, he seeks to capture not only the visual beauty of the scene before him, but its true essence - its mood and atmosphere. Continuing a journey begun nearly a century ago by American landscape painters like Fitz Henry Lane and Frederick Edwin Church, Roffo is in search of the sublime. "I seek out that elusive subject matter that possesses a sublime quality...mere representation of a scene does not satisfy my artistic yearnings. Instead, my ultimate artistic goal is to evoke a mood that transcends reality, to create an atmosphere that previously did not exist within the confines of my paintings." This deep engagement with the natural world is felt in his exquisite paintings that tantalize the senses and transport the viewer to a wondrous moment in time.
