Class Description
This accessible yoga series, led by trauma-informed yoga instructor and sound meditation facilitator, Marlene Boyette, focuses on empowerment through choice and presence. Release Yoga welcomes participants to engage with and listen to their breath, their body, and their mind, developing a rhythm that honors their individual needs for both movement and stillness. Each class acts as an invitation for students to explore the way that they approach their yoga practice, creating space to release what doesn’t serve, support or sustain them.
About the Instructor
Marlene Boyette (she/her) is a Boston-based trauma-informed therapeutic yoga and sound meditation practitioner, educator and community activist, teaching since 2013. She aims to use movement, stillness, and sound to encourage restoration, joy, and healing within communities of all backgrounds, ages and abilities. Marlene is a faculty member at The Advent School, where she has taught Yoga and Mindfulness full time for 7 years. She also teaches weekly classes and workshops at JP Centre Yoga in Jamaica Plain.
Through her business, Leela Yoga + Wellness, Marlene has developed partnerships with various organizations and institutions within and outside of Boston such as Paramount / Nickelodeon, Spotify, The City of Boston, MIT, Harvard University and The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.
As a practitioner, Marlene believes that wellness modalities can be used as tools to activate social change and collective healing. Some of her efforts include creating and facilitating the BIPOC yoga series, “Yoga For Us”, which launched in 2019.
Marlene has been recognized locally and nationally by The Boston Globe, Getaway House, and Lululemon for her contributions and dedication to community, equity, social justice, and wellness, and was recently a featured guest on GBH’s longest running public television show, Basic Black.
