Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans returns to Boston for the second year July 19-25, 2021. Our team of local, regional, and national artists will gather in East Boston for ten days to create a series of locally relevant public artworks to educate and empower residents and visitors to become stewards of our oceans.
Our collaborative effort has joined forces with the New England Aquarium, a global leader in marine research and education, as the Honorary Conservation Partner for Sea Walls Boston 2021. With the help of the Aquarium, we will amplify the critical environmental messages depicted in the new murals and will make waves internationally for ocean conservation awareness.
In addition to the 12 murals being painted in East Boston, two artworks will help to expand the reach of the Sea Walls Boston project to the greater Boston community:
Artist Dragon76 kicks off the project with a mural at the Fenway in partnership with Samuels & Associates the week of July 12, and the facade of the Aquarium’s Simons Theatre will be painted by the artist Shepard Fairey from July 22-25.
Boston is the first city to host a Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans project in the Northeast region of the United States, and we are honored to bring our creative message of preservation and stewardship for our oceans to the community of East Boston.
The objective for Sea Walls Boston is to create a powerful new collection of landmark artworks that will serve as educational tools and conversation-starters, addressing marine environmental issues relevant and of local importance. Through the project, we aim to ignite ownership for the sustainability of natural resources and to build community around the common cause of protecting the region’s ocean and coast for future generations.
