In celebration of the A.R.T.’s upcoming musical adaptation of Real Women Have Curves (beginning Dec 6!), enjoy a free screening of HBO’s beloved 2002 film adaptation of Real Women Have Curves (starring America Ferrera in her feature film debut), presented by The Brattle Theatre as part of the Elements of Cinema series. Twenty years after the award-winning film “showed Latinas they can love themselves, no matter their size” (Pop Sugar), experience the charming coming-of-age tale on the big screen before its new musical adaptation makes its world premiere at the Loeb Drama Center. The film screening will feature an exclusive conversation with the musical's book writer Lisa Loomer and actress Sandra Valls. Valls will introduce the film and share her personal connection to the story and its significance to the Latine community. Following the screening, Loomer will be in conversation about her process of adapting this iconic film and why she things the piece is so important.
Admission to this screening is free and first-come, first-served beginning at 5:30pm on the day of the show. No tickets are available in advance for this screening.
