Join the SciFri Book Club for an in-person conversation with the author of our November read, The Sounds of Life: How Digital Technology Is Bringing Us Closer to the Worlds of Animals and Plants.
On stage, author Karen Bakker will tune us sonically-challenged humans in on the new technological innovations and ancient wisdom that are helping us hear and understand nonhuman sounds more and more. Joining her on stage is David Gruber, project lead of Project CETI, working to decipher the communication of one of the world’s most enigmatic ocean species: the sperm whale. Plus, attendees will participate in a few rounds of sound-specific trivia for a chance to win signed copies of Karen’s new book!
Our friends from Trident Booksellers & Cafe will be selling Karen’s new book, The Sounds of Life, for any attendees who wish to purchase a copy. Support your local bookstores!
Haven’t read the book yet? No problem! You can join us whether or not you’ve picked up or read the author’s book. We’ll talk about topics and themes featured in the book, which can be explored by all attendees.
Please note: This event is 21+ and attendees will need to show a non-expired ID (passport, drivers license, etc.) at the door.
