NBSO bassoonist Michael Mechanic joins us for a program of delectations featuring St. Saens’ rollicking Bassoon Sonata and a rare quintet by Swiss polymath Édouard Du Puy. Outrageously infectious Café Music, inspired by Paul Schoenfield’s one-night stand at Murray’s Restaurant in Minneapolis, fuses jazz, klezmer, and Broadway in a memorable blowout. Icing on the gateau arrives with La Création du monde, Darius Milhaud’s memorable ballet music based on African folk mythology.
