Tis’ the school season again, but stress not at Martin House Farm’s history soirée on September 13th, where we will relax under a tree, craft, and tell some Mayflower stories with Carol Gafford from Swansea Public Library. Let your mind wander and sail away as your children learn about this monumental 400th anniversary of the Pilgrims landing at neighboring Plymouth on the Mayflower.
Martin House Farm offers a glimpse back in time, a simple time and lots of time was spent together as a family. The property is a rare example of an 18th and early 19th-century farm which still retains the character of its original setting. It consists of the house, two barns and cultivated fields surrounded by dry stone walls and woodlands. Visitors can peek into the hay barn and visualize days gone by when the farmer was storing his hay there for bedding, covering crops, and feeding animals. The home was lived in continuously by members of the Martin family for over 200 years. Each room allows you to step back in time and visualize life in the early 1700s.
Martin House Farm is owned and operated by The National Society of The Colonial Dames in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This nonprofit organization is celebrating its 127th year of service promoting its missions, which include historic preservation, patriotic services, and sponsoring of veterans programs and educational programs focused on early US history.
Martin House Farm is located at 22 Stoney Hill Road, Swansea, MA. Admission: $5, children under 12, active military and families- free
