April 15, Tax Day.
For many, especially creative types, it is a date that is often filled with dread. How should I file? What can I deduct? Help is on the way--The Somerville Arts Council, in collaboration with Huntington Tax Partners, answers some of your most pressing questions. We will explore the basics of what is considered income, what can be deducted (and common deductions for business owners), record-keeping requirements, how to incorporate your business, and more. The goal is to provide a basic understanding of these concepts and have enough knowledge to successfully run a business. Join us on March 21 for an “artful” approach to filing taxes.
About the SAC Professional Development Series
The creation of work is the driving force of any artist. However, it is one piece in a larger puzzle to developing the necessary skill set to further one’s career. In partnerships with Somerville Open Studios and the Somerville Media Center, the Somerville Arts Council will be hosting three part panel series, focusing on taxes, artist residencies, and pricing work. Join the Somerville Arts Council and industry professionals in March, April, and May for an evening of discussion about what it takes to be a working artist today.
