Boston’s springtime live music celebration returns to ONCE Ballroom in Somerville Sunday, April 2 through Friday, April 21. This marks the eighth year of production by long-time radio host and event organizer, Anngelle Wood (WFNX, WBCN, WZLX). 24 bands meet up over six preliminary nights. The victorious six go to Semifinals (add two wildcards), with the finals showdown for three bands standing.


Since its official start in 1979 at the infamous Rat in Kenmore Square, the Rumble’s past is a storied one. Often mentioned are the bands who’d gotten “robbed” of victory or the rattlings of those who’d never participated, to the implications of the championship, this beloved Boston rock tradition faced an uncertain future. When 104.1 WBCN closed up shop in the Summer of 2009, the fate of the Rumble hung in the balance. As heir-apparent to the Rock & Roll Rumble helm – along with New England music radio program, Boston Emissions, Anngelle Wood set out to resuscitate the Rock & Roll Rumble. As a result of her dedication, this curated music showcase has been transformed from a traditional band battle into an anticipated New England music festival spotlighting new and live music from around New England.
