6 Chinatown residents + 4 artists + 1 abandoned lot = Residence Lab!
Four Boston-based Asian American artists from various backgrounds including film, illustration, photography, sound art, poetry, and architecture spent the summer collaborating with and learning from Chinatown residents. The artist-resident collective aimed to address one core question through their work: How might residents take ownership of Chinatown’s physical space in a way that preserves and fosters neighborhood identity?
Come discover the creative results of bringing artists and residents together to shape a rapidly changing Chinatown and reimagine an empty lot next to the Chinatown Gate.
Residence Lab’s space activation opens on Friday, August 23, 2019, during ACDC’s Films at the Gate and closes on Saturday, September 28, 2019, during BCNC’s Experience Chinatown Festival.
Residence Lab is generously funded by the Barr Foundation and ArtPlace America and supported by Sasaki’s Fabrication Studio. Click here to learn more about residencies at the Pao Arts Center.
