An original musical, Remember When, will be performed to raise funds for Cure Alzheimer’s Fund on Wednesday, April 26th. All proceeds from the performance at the Coolidge Corner Theater will go towards the organization that provides funding to researchers seeking effective treatments for Alzheimer’s disease.
The one-woman show follows a young woman on her path to self-discovery and renewal as she takes the audience on a musical adventure. It features songs made popular during the early adult years of the majority of the people now suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. A pre-show talk will be given by Dr. Rudolph Tanzi, chair of Cure Alzheimer Fund’s Research Consortium and a leading researcher into the disease.
Created by local college student, Morgan Middleton, the performance seeks to empower family and friends of people with Alzheimer’s by increasing their awareness of the power of music as a therapy for the disease while raising money for critical research. According to the Alzheimer’s Breakthrough Act of 2011, for every $28,000 the federal government spends on care for Alzheimer’s patients, it only spends $100 on disease research.
Made possible with grants awarded to Ms. Middleton by the New England Conservatory and The Boston Foundation, Remember When is offered as a free event to attend, but a donation to Cure Alzheimer’s Fund is requested. One-hundred percent of proceeds from the performance will go directly toward funding promising research.
