Join us as we explore two interconnected histories of fashion during the Gilded Age. In a discussion moderated by Gibson House Museum Curator Meghan Gelardi Holmes, our in-house costume researcher Cate Carver will highlight the recycling of Victorian clothes as reflected in the Gibson House collections, while fashion historian Linzy Brekke-Aloise (Stonehill College) will consider how the rise of mass-produced clothing fueled new ideas about the democratic possibilities of self-fashioning but also produced economic and social consequences whose effects are still being felt today.
This event will be held over zoom.
