How does a city and landscape artist widely exhibited and collected by the Met and the Whitney in the 1920s and 1930s, disappear after a World War II crisis of faith into a spiritual journey far from New York’s art scene?
Mark Baum's search for the “element” was prescient of the digital age, a spiritual algorithm he explored through planes of color and form. He created a hand-drawn, dynamically shaped ‘pixel’ repeated in large-scale compositions that vibrate with the color and movement of fractal photography or resonate like mandalas in an awe-inspiring universe.
Join the Director of the Mark Baum Estate and a guest curator as they chart the course of the artist’s amazing career.
