On September 22, 2018 Boston is the place to be for mind gamers from around the world. The inaugural Red Bull Rubik’s Cube World Championship will be held at the Cyclorama Boston where over 50 cubers from more than 12 countries will compete for the world title, as well as a share of the $ 30,000 prize pool and challenge their minds to be one of the lucky winners of an exceptional champions ring.
For this debut some of the most brilliant minds from more than 12 countries will travel to the East Coast of the United States to solve the Rubik’s Cube in a thrilling one-on-one knockout tournament and four different disciplines at Cyclorama Boston to crown the world champions. The event is designed by Red Bull Mind Gamers, who aims for wider-ranging competitions and better visibility, to challenge the most accomplished Cube solvers in this aspiring sport and find the world’s fastest ones. After qualifying events held in more than 15 countries, from the UK to India and Brazil to Japan, as well as via an online wild card system, the best of those curious minds will face – next to world famous innovation-leading institutions like MIT or Harvard – the Cube.
In a full day of competition, cubers will compete in three different game modes designed in close collaboration with the speed-cubing community: „Speed Cubing“, a straight best of five head to head competition, ‘Fastest Hand’ in which competitors must solve the Cube one-handed, and ‘Re-Scramble’, a straight head-to-head race to solve a single scramble. In addition, a women-only Speed-Cubing competition will be held as well. The participants will compete in the same game mode, which they won in the national qualifiers. In the world final, all participants will face one another in a series of one-on-one knockout rounds, semifinals and finals to find out who is the fastest Cube solver.
