Our mission, should you choose to accept it, will be summiting Mount Moosilauke on October 13 to familiarize ourselves with the area because I’m planning a backcountry skiing trip there once the mountain sees enough snow fall. When that may be, I’m not sure, so for now, but we're planing on starting off at the ravine lodge trail head and making a loop by ascending the snapper trail to the carriage road trail. We'll stop briefly on the southern peak and then proceeding to the main summit to eat a trail lunch. Then, we'll descend the Goerge brook trail back to the ravine lodge trail head. Possibly, if people are up to it, we could get dinner somewhere nearby or maybe something closer to Boston.
This is a serious hike and proper gear will be required.
1) Three liters of water
2) A day's worth of food
3) Head lamp
4) Map/compass
5) Hiking boots are a must due to the time of year
6) Hat & gloves
7) Multiple non-cotton layers
8) Waterproof jacket
9) Snow is definitely not unheard of in this area In October, so you should be prepared to have microspikes.
Expectations
You should join this hike with the proper gear and some recent 3,000+ foot hiking experience in the White Mountains or Adirondacks. Our purpose is not only to summit but to also scout out back-country skiing opportunities. You can still join this hike even if you might not go skiing, but your head has to be in a place open to curiosity; I'll even talk to you about my love for the sport! I'm not a professional guide and am not acting as such - it is your responsibility to have a map of the relevant route which you can find on AllTrails, Gaia, and other platforms.
This message will self destruct in 10,9,8,7,6...just kidding. It won’t self destruct, but how cool would that be!
