Jeb Bishop, a Boston Jazz (trombone, leader, composer,) and icon making a difference,
presenting his
“Every Opportunity” band
(2) special guests from New York, plus
(8) Who’s Who, outstanding Boston/New England musicians
Trombonist Jeb Bishop has been a prominent figure in new jazz and improvised music since the 1990s. He first gained attention as a member of many Chicago-area bands including Vandermark 5, the Peter Brötzmann Chicago Tentet, and his own trio and quartet. He has been based in Boston since 2016, where he works regularly with the group Cutout and Charlie Kohlhase's Explorers' Club, and is frequently heard in freely improvised settings.
This large version of the Every Opportunity project was first put together for the 2019 Driff Records festival at the Lilypad in Cambridge. He wanted to take the opportunity to convene and write for a larger ensemble featuring some of his favorite musicians/improvisers that he’s gotten to know since moving to the Boston area, also incorporating some colleagues now based in New York City. Now getting to write for and work with this unique instrumentation and these amazing players all together!
Jeb Bishop, trombone
“Jeb Bishop is the most inspiring player to come out of the North Side improvising scene associated with Ken Vandermark. In recent years, the trombonist has blossomed into a major voice on his instrument, with a big, punchy tone, an instinctive sense of melody and the wisdom not to run on too long. A veteran of multiple international tours, he's a frequent collaborator with like minded players here and abroad. Critic, Kevin whitehead, Chicago Sun Times.
