The Boston-based Rasa String Quartet received first prize in the Associazione Europea Di Musica E Comunicazione International Chamber Music Competition (Italy,) the Chamber Music Yellow Springs Competition (OH,) and the Music Teachers National Association Chamber Music Competition (ATL,) and have performed across the US, including appearances with Rockport Music, the Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Music Festival in North Carolina, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and Brian O’Donovan’s Rockport Celtic Festival. Rasa String Quartet is passionate about performing powerful, engaging, and unconventional programs that are inspired by a wide variety of traditions, fuse multiple genres, highlight unknown composers, and make “classical music” culturally relevant. They take the relaxed atmosphere and banter of a folk or pop show and bring it to the classical concert experience in a way that is easily understandable, relatable, and entertaining. They have collaborated with artists from widely varying backgrounds such as Celtic harpist, Maeve Gilchrist, folk singer-songwriter, Keith Murphy, and Indian kuchipudi dancer, Yamini Kalluri. The quartet members are violinists Maura Shawn Scanlin and Kiyoshi Hayashi, violist Emma Powell, and cellist Mina Kim. To learn more, visit their website.
This performance is part of Boston Public Library's Concerts in the Courtyard Series sponsored by Bank of America. Registration is not required but seating is first come, first served. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be moved indoors.
