ACTION! FUTURE VIDEO PRODUCERS, DIRECTORS, EDITORS AND STARS OF ALL AGES WELCOME AT WESTWOOD MEDIA CENTER GRAND OPENING
All are welcome to tour and explore new media center’s facility in Westwood’s McMackin Building, 15 Perwal Street on January
5, 2017 5-7 p.m.
The Westwood Media Center (formerly known as WestCAT) welcomes all ages to the grand opening of the new media center and studio at 15 Perwal Street, Westwood on January 5th from 5-7 p.m. With high-quality equipment, a computer lab and conference room and even gallery displays of Westwood artists’ work, the open house will showcase all this new Westwood facility has to offer, including live broadcasts and a calendar of exciting new classes in digital video production and non-video topics.
“Westwood Media Center officers and board members are so pleased to show off this new media center, and swing open the
studio doors for this public open house,” said Melinda Garfield, WMC Executive Director. “From conference rooms and computer labs to the latest production technology, the new Westwood Media Center is even more accessible with training and classes in topic areas attractive to the next generation of television industry professionals.”
For anyone looking to learn how to get involved in the studio and become a member, guests will be given tours of the studio along with demonstrations of the facility’s equipment. Guests may also enter a raffle with prizes and giveaways for new memberships. Open house attendees can also view the conference room/meeting space, explore the edit suite, test drive one of six new Apple desktop computers loaded with Adobe Creative Suite, and try out the field production equipment and the HD studio/control room.
In addition, Westwood High and college students interested in new media are encouraged to apply for an internship, during which
they will receive valuable training and production experience in the television industry.
Starting January 11th, classes will be available to Westwood residents. After completing an orientation, then explore classes in studio production, studio lighting, field production with HD cameras, and training in the new studio and in the field. (See website for details.)
The new larger facility reflects a shift in the industry to expand the station’s offerings beyond broadcasting government, community news and educational programming to more education and local,
original programming and live broadcasts. Westwood Media Center is an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit which the Town of Westwood relies on to produce quality local television content, including coverage of government meetings (Board of Selectmen, School Committee, Planning Board, Finance and Warrant Commission,
and other important public meetings) and numerous community events such as school sports, arts and performances, and more.
Formerly known as WestCAT, the station is available to Comcast
subscribers on channels 8 (community/education), 12 (government), and 22 (community bulletin board), and Verizon subscribers on channels 32 (community/education) and 42 (government). WMC videos are available on demand on YouTube and links to key videos can be found on its Facebook page or on Twitter at @Westwood_Media.
