On the evening of May 13th, 2017, artwork will once again take over the historic Jamaica Plain Brewery Complex for the evening, with Projections: an art exhibit on the exterior walls of the building. The Jamaica Plain Arts Council (JPAC) together with the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation (JPNDC) will present an innovative mix of traditional gallery opening and multi-media one-night event! This unconventional art show removes the gallery walls and invites everyone to experience art in a relaxed, community-centered atmosphere, while enjoying live music and food and drink from local JP establishments.
The event combines the best aspects of art gallery openings and block parties beginning with lively music provided by JP’s own Honk! band. As the sun sets, the music relaxes into a more low key tone, and the art comes alive in full color on the brewery wall!
In keeping with traditions of past juried shows, submissions were free and open to any artist working in any medium including 2D, 3D and video. Jurors reviewed submissions and selected works to be awarded “Jurors Choice” and/or “Best of Show” based on quality of work and originality. Jurors’ selections will be recognized during the projected multi-media experience. Two local jurors: Jean Mineo and Rob Festa, both with extensive backgrounds as artists and art curators/management, will be reviewing the 250+ images, looking at all aspects of the pieces including composition, quality, originality and overall effectiveness.
Along with the strong artist community support, local sponsors are a key part of Projection’s event success. The event takes over the Sam Adams Brewery beer garden and back lot of their complex which Sam Adams donates along with their signature libations. Stonybrook Fine Arts, with close proximity to the event, provides a pre/post event staging area as well as other provisions . JP Licks is donating ice cream and sundae fixings. High Output, Inc. technicians will be on site setting up the 12x10 foot high density screen and running the technical aspect of the projections.
