QUINCY, MASS. — The City of Presidents celebrates its first annual Presidents Day Winter Festival on Presidents Day, Monday, February 20 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the scenic new Hancock-Adams Green.
The Green is located outside Quincy City Hall, 1305 Hancock St., just steps from Quincy Center T station on the MBTA Red Line and commuter rail, 15 minutes from South Station in downtown Boston.
This free, family-friendly event will feature the Massachusetts National Guard Quintet, teen pop group 3D, a 35-foot inflatable snow slide for kids, fire breathing performance and stilt walking, mobile video gaming truck, marionette show, green screen photo booth, live entertainment inside and outside.
Visitors can also enjoy costumed re-enactors and guided tours of Quincy's historic 1844 Old City Hall and the National Historic Landmark Greek revival masterpiece Church of the Presidents, the final resting place of presidents John and John Quincy Adams and First Ladies Abigail and Louisa Catherine Adams.
The festival will also feature the flavors of downtown Quincy's thriving restaurant scene,
including Rozafa Mediterranean Bistro, Purefections Chocolate, Cucina Mia Cafe & Deli, Craig’s Café and the original Dunkin Donuts, a Quincy landmark since 1950.
All attractions and entertainment are free, except for food and drink.
Quincy is known as the City of Presidents because it is the birthplace of President John Adams, President John Quincy Adams and President of the Second Continental Congress John Hancock. The festival is part of Mayor Thomas P. Koch's effort to shine a light on the beautiful new Hancock-Adams Green, Phase 1 of which opened last year.
“Presidents Day also kicks off February vacation, so a family-friendly event is a great start." said Koch, “Quincy is the City of Presidents. We should be celebrating that on a grander scale and this is a good beginning. We plan on expanding the festival and making this an annual tradition.”
When the Hancock Adams Green is completed, the Mayor plans on designating it as a place for family-friendly events and activities.
The 2017 Presidents Day Winter Festival is being produced by the City of Quincy, in conjunction with JM Productions. A partnership between the City of Quincy and the city’s official tourism arm, Discover Quincy. In addition, support has been provided by The United First Parish Church (Church of the Presidents) and the Adams National Historical Park.
