Deconstructing Black Panther: Race and Identity Beyond the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Still reverberating after its highly anticipated 2018 release and historic rise to blockbuster movie status, “Black Panther” provides a range of discussion themes. From the enlightening to the entertaining and the informative to the inspirational, this presentation/discussion will engage participants in critically thinking about the cultural impact of “Black Panther.” The phenomenon of racism, colonialism, racial uplift ideology, economic empowerment, and political activism and resistance – themes that have long been relevant to the black experience in America as well as the African diaspora – in addition to comics/graphic novels, fashion, and Afrofuturism are just some of the topics that inform the discourse about this groundbreaking movie.

This event will be led by Dorothy Clark, member of the Loring Greenough House Board of Directors, independent researcher, and adjunct history instructor at the Boston Architectural School

Join us for this “Pop Talk,” a new public discourse series at the Loring Greenough House, on Saturday, February 22 at 2 p.m. Scenes from “Black Panther” will be shown and excerpts from the screenplay will be available. Light refreshments will be served.

THIS IS A FREE EVENT, PLEASE RSVP
