Hiking to Glen Ellis Falls, Lost Pond and Square Ledge in Pinkham Notch
An interesting walk with a variety of features and views of Mount Washington and other peaks in the Presidential Range.
Activity Description:
Starting near the wonderful AMC Visitor Center in Pinkham Notch, we will walk to Glen Ellis Falls which ought to be gushing with water this time of year. We’ll also visit Lost Pond where we might get to see beavers and views of Mt Washington across the pond. Lastly, we’ll visit Square Ledge which offers more excellent views of Mt Washington and its neighbors.
Difficulty: EASY
Trails: Direttissima, Glen Ellis Falls, Lost Pond Trail and Square Ledge Trail.
Distance: 4-6 miles
Elevation Gain: 450 feet
Non-Carpool directions: the AMC Pinkham Notch Visitor Center.
* There is one small water crossing that we ought to be able to rock-hop across. One could also take their boots off and ford the shallow sections. If we are unable to all make the crossing safely, we will turn back and complete the hike as a pair of out and backs instead of a loop.*
CAMPING Expectations:
This time of year can be warm like summer on a sunny day but can also drop below freezing temps at night. Warm clothes to wear and sleep in are necessary as well as a warm sleeping bag. A tent with a functional rain fly is also required. Effortless Adventure has made reservations at Barnes Field Campground which is included with your Adventure Ticket. We will be sharing a large group site with plenty of space for everyone. Full camping gear packages can be rented from Effortless Adventure below. If you need just individual items, you can find them on their website.
