This month’s Picture + Panel will feature a discussion between Rosemary Mosco and Dan Nott about Hidden Worlds—the things we miss in the world all around us. BCAF President of the Board Zach Clemente will moderate.
Picture + Panel is a monthly conversation series that brings fantastic graphic novel creators to the Greater Boston area. Discover terrific authors and fascinating stories that combine text and art through conversational confabulation. Produced in partnership by Aeronaut Brewing, Porter Square Books, and the Boston Comic Arts Foundation, Picture + Panel provides thought-provoking discussions for adults about this unique form of expression.
Book sales are provided at the event by Porter Square Books.
All events at Aeronaut Brewery are for ages 21+. This event will take place in their 'Food Hub' space.
About the Authors
Rosemary Mosco is an author, illustrator, and speaker whose work connects people with the natural world.
She’s written and drawn for The New York Times, Audubon, the PBS show ‘Elinor Wonders Why,’ The Old Farmer's Almanac for Kids, Ranger Rick, and has a regular comic strip in the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's Living Bird magazine. She creates acclaimed science books for kids and adults and makes the nature comic Bird and Moon, which won the National Cartoonists Society’s award for Best Online Short Form Comic and was the subject of an award-winning museum exhibit. Her climate change comics were exhibited at AAAS headquarters and the Peabody Essex Museum. She gives talks and workshops to groups of all ages.
Rosemary holds a Masters of Science from the Field Naturalist Program. She also served as a judge for a Festival of Bad Ad-hoc Hypotheses, judged a bird tattoo contest, and co-founded a week celebrating invertebrate butts.
Her favorite glacial landform is the esker.
Dan Nott is an artist, cartoonist, and educator living in Vermont.
His debut nonfiction graphic novel, Hidden Systems, was long listed for a National Book Award, selected as an Indie Next and Indies Introduce pick by the American Booksellers Association, and an Honor pick from the National Council of Teachers of English. He has released two comic books with the Center for Cartoon Studies, This is What Democracy Looks Like: A Graphic Guide to Governance, and Freedom and Unity: A Graphic Guide to Civics and Democracy in Vermont.
Dan’s short comics and illustrations for investigative journalism have appeared in dozens of publications. In 2022, his comics work was exhibited at Harvard University’s Radcliffe Institute for the exhibit ‘Drawing Us Together: Public Life and Public Health in Contemporary Comics.’ Dan holds an MFA from the Center for Cartoon Studies, where he now teaches a graduate-level course on comics history, theory and communities called Survey of the Drawn Story.
Dan co-runs Parsifal Press, a micro press for independent comics and special objects, with his partner, Daryl Seitchik.
