Join us for a Faculty Artist Series performance by two BMS piano faculty, Xuan He and Svetlana Krasnova. A shared program of solo piano music featuring two towering and thrilling masterworks of 19th-century repertoire. Xuan He will perform a Fantasy by Mozart and Liszt’s Dante Fantasia-quasi-sonata. The Dante Sonata, as it is often known, was inspired by Liszt's reading of The Divine Comedy, and features scenes from Dante's harrowing Inferno to the exultation of the Paradiso. Svetlana Krasnova will perform Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, a virtual museum tour of ten colorful tableaux in memory of painter Viktor Hartmann, dear friend of the composer. There will be a Meet-the-Artists reception after performance. Open to all | voluntary donation welcome.
