“If constellations had been named in the 20th century, I suppose we would see bicycles.”
-Carl Sagan
The Trustees are excited to announce a unique partnership that celebrates nature, biking, and music! What could be better?
Since 2017, singer songwriter Peter Mulvey has had at least one tour exclusively via bicycle each year. The goal? He wanted to change the nature of what it meant to be a touring musician for himself. The decades of gas guzzling human-transport measures he had to interact with annually became a dilemma for Peter in sharing his art. In turn, he decided to make it his mission to have at least one tour a year to be traveled by human-power and found solace in doing so as he was already an avid cyclist.
Since its inception, Peter has pedaled to hundreds of gigs and across thousands of miles. He’s toured via bicycle along the west coast, southwest states, mountain states, the Midwest and the NE. This year, he will be touring exclusively with the Trustees, at five diverse properties across the Commonwealth. We encourage visitors to bicycle to the performance and experience the beauty of fall in New England.
On Sunday, September 10, we are thrilled to host Peter for a special performance at deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum. This concert takes place on Linda’s Lawn so bring your chairs and blankets. If it rains, this concert will take place in the Dewey Family Hall located on the third floor of the deCordova Museum. Enter through the main museum entrance and staff will greet and direct you.

ABOUT PETER MULVEY
Peter Mulvey has been a songwriter, road-dog, raconteur, and almost-poet since before he can remember. In 1989 he spent a year in Ireland, busking on the streets of Dublin and hitchhiking to whatever gigs he could find. Back stateside, he spent a couple years gigging through the bars of his native Midwest before taking off for Boston, where he returned to subway busking and coffeehouses. Small shows led to larger shows, which eventually led to regional and then national touring. The wheels have not stopped since.
Twenty albums, one illustrated book, thousands of live performances, a TEDx talk, a decades-long association with the National Youth Science Camp, opening tours and gigs for luminaries such as Ani DiFranco, Greg Brown, Emmylou Harris and Chuck Prophet, appearances on NPR, an annual autumn tour by bicycle, emceeing festivals, hosting his own Lamplighter Sessions for years in Boston and in Wisconsin… he has built his life’s work on collaboration, on an instinct for the eclectic and the vital.
