EVENT OVERVIEW:
In the midst of the events nationwide, the purpose of this event is to demonstrate that the City of Peabody supports the need for racial justice, equality, and unity in the United States and to remember the life of George Floyd. As a city, we must come together to raise awareness of the racial inequities that currently exist in our country and work together to find meaningful solutions as a community. Peabody must be a city that celebrates its own diversity and commits to equality and justice for all. To begin this process, we invite the community to come to this peaceful demonstration to support the cause of racial justice, equality, and unity.
EVENT AGENDA:
1.) Attendees will park in the designated lots when that information becomes available.
2.) Once at the park, attendees (who are not members of the same household) will space out at least 6 feet apart from each other on the field wearing masks that cover their nose and mouth.
3.) At 12:15pm, a series of speakers will speak to the need of racial justice, equality, and unity in the United States. Speakers will include, but are not limited to, Mayor Ted Bettencourt, the city clergy from all faiths, community leaders, and members of the public. We will make a serious effort to prioritize the voices of people of color in our community. All speakers will be identified prior to the event.
4.) We will then hold a few rally chants that support the need for racial justice, equality, and unity. Attendees will be informed of some concrete action steps that they can take to help.
5.) To conclude the event, we will observe a moment of silence for 8 minutes and 46 seconds in respect of the life of George Floyd.
Lastly, attendees will be asked to leave the venue.
