Initially, Down Home Up Here Bluegrass Festival, was a way to showcase the incredible emerging New England bluegrass acts at Club Passim all in one weekend. Matt Smith at Passim recognized that there were some extremely strong talents in our region that were starting to take off.
“Oddly, the Boston area has been a hub for Bluegrass for decades. We needed to find a way to celebrate that - what better way than our own Bluegrass festival?”
- Matt Smith, Club Passim Managing Director
This festival also serves as a launching point for the hottest bluegrass talent in town. Previous performers like Twisted Pine, The Lonely Heartstring Band, Mile Twelve and Brittany Haas hit the stage for DHUH before gaining widespread recognition in Boston and beyond. This year, Passim is thrilled to highlight beloved locals like Rachel Sumner, Pretty Saro & Bella White. Also on stage will be longtime Boston mainstays,The Revenants and also a performance from the Steve Martin & Edie Brickell bluegrass musical “Bright Star.” Consider DHUH to be THE place to catch tomorrow’s biggest bluegrass stars on the Passim stage.
The DHUH Fest, which takes its name from the Robbie Fulks song “Countrier Than Thou,” features the most exciting bluegrass in the area while not adhering to strict bluegrass formatting. You’ll hear traditional bluegrass, but also be prepared for plenty of Old Time and several adjacent styles to the genre. While not a traditional Bluegrass fest, there will be plenty of sightings of Fiddle, Banjos, Mandos, and possible DOBRO.
