WHAT
Party on the Point is Boston Children’s Museum’s signature event for local young professionals. Hosted by the Museum’s Young Professionals’ Council, this party is the first year of this new volunteer group for over 400 young professional attendees. The proceeds from this fundraiser help counteract summer learning loss through the numerous summer enrichment opportunities at the Museum.
WHY
Summer learning loss can leave low-income students 2.5-3 years behind their peers by 5th grade, and accounts for 2/3 of the achievement gap in reading by 9th grade. Boston Children’s Museum admits 160,000 children and families for free or at reduced admission – these families may otherwise not be able to afford to visit.
Students who fall behind over the summer are less likely to graduate from high school or go on to college. The Museum keeps children engaged in learning experiences over the summer that can strengthen retention and prepare them for the new school year.
WHO
The Young Professionals’ Council is a group of supporters ages 21–39 who value early childhood education and development and are devoted to the mission of Boston Children’s Museum. All are committed to helping develop the next generation of minds to support, build and strengthen our greater community.
