Subcentral & Cambridge Community Television Present: Intro to Electronic Music and Ableton
This course begins with a brief history of electronic music followed by an overview of electronic music production through a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). Through the historical component, expect to gain familiarity with different electronic genres and examine how each of these genres has evolved in the United States and the world. The Ableton module of this course will go over the production of some of these genres: learn which elements can distinctively place a track in a certain category, and experiment with turning simple frequencies into a track made for the dance floor. Overall, this course will provide an understanding of the backbone, structure, composition, instruments, and elements necessary to turn basic sounds into something harmonic and musical. It may sound complicated, but we aim to keep this introductory course simple and objective. After participating in this class, students will be able to differentiate genres and subgenres of electronic music. They will also develop an understanding of song structure and how percussion, rhythm and harmony are brought together with a digital software. No background knowledge is required.
