Did you know that Massachusetts was at the center of the national struggle for women's rights? Or that this struggle was intertwined with the abolitionist movement? On Wednesday, March 20, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., join Barbara Berenson, the author of Massachusetts in the Woman Suffrage Movement: Revolutionary Reformers, for a history talk about the Bay State's prominent role in women's fight for the vote. Tune in on Zoom to hear Berenson discuss how local abolitionists opposed women’s exclusion from political life and how after the war the Boston-based American Woman Suffrage Association led campaigns across the country. She will highlight untold stories of Black activists and working-class organizers and how their efforts continue to influence how we remember the women’s suffrage movement today. This virtual event is accessible with a donation of any amount to support Old North Illuminated, the nonprofit that stewards Old North Church. The 2024 Speaker Series is brought to you in part by HUB Town Tours. To register, please visit: https://www.oldnorth.com/events/.
