Join Mary Yang and Jessie Rubenstein, faculty at Boston University School of Visual Arts and Ilana Curtis, Masters Candidate at the Harvard Graduate School of Design for a tour of Now What?! Advocacy, Activism & Alliances in American Architecture Since 1968 and lively discussion on the design and customization of the traveling exhibition for BSA Space.
After traveling to 11 cities in 3 different countries since 2018, Mary and Jessie had the exciting opportunity to build upon Now What?! for its final stop in Boston. They were tasked with adapting the content-rich exhibition and graphic identity previously designed by Lisa Maione and Michele Gorman and making it more accessible, participatory, and spatialized for BSA’s gallery and audience.
Now What?! blends design practice with academy as a strategy for a socially based practice, and the design development of the exhibition followed suit. The design team, through an independent study with students at Boston University School of Visual Arts conceived of new participatory and engagement strategies within the existing exhibition framework. Ilana led a J-Term course at Harvard GSD to research and add Boston-specific content to Now What?! in a special section called “Boston Changemakers.” Visitors have ample opportunities to add their own voices to the exhibition.
Join Now What?! exhibition designers, supporters, and friends for this casual and informative discussion on exhibition-making, experiential graphic design, and activism in architecture.
