Now Listen Here Celebrates Three Years of Storytelling in Dorchester
Friday, February 21, 7:30pm at home.stead Bakery and Cafe

For the last three years, Now Listen Here has delivered amazing and unique, live entertainment to the Field’s Corner neighborhood of Dorchester. On the third Friday of each month, the home.stead Café & Bakery lights up the intersection of Dorchester Avenue and Adams with live stories and music. The theme of the anniversary show on Friday, February 21 is “Roasted.”

The format for Now Listen Here is a non-competitive open mic. Anyone can tell a story at Now Listen Here. All interested people just show up, put their names in a jug and, if picked, they each tell a 5-6 minute true, personal story with no rants, stand-up routines, notes, or props. The theme for the February anniversary show is “Roasted.” Storytellers interpret the theme as they wish and it’s always entertaining.
Do you have a story about taking your honorary speech too far at your boss’s retirement party? Did you incur the wrath of your Aunt Rose when you posted her secret family recipe for roasted potato and brussel sprout casserole on your food blog? Prepare a 5-minute story with no notes and put your name in the jug to tell your tale from the microphone. Or just back and listen to great stories and music.
Producer/founder/host Bart Thompson is proud that Now Listen Here is celebrating its third anniversary. “Now Listen Here has become an integral part of the Boston-area storytelling scene, bringing top storytellers and musicians to my Field’s Corner neighborhood.

Co-producer Julie Baker has been telling stories at Now Listen Here since the first show, but she’s excited to join the Now Listen Here team this year as a producer and storytelling teacher. She loves encouraging and coaching new tellers and appreciates the welcoming environment of the non-competitive open mic format. “Both new and seasoned storytellers can focus on telling great stories without worrying about judging or scores.”

Now Listen Here is delighted to welcome PRX director and former Moth producer, Gina James as the featured storyteller for the February show. Gina is a die-hard storyteller and can be found directing development and operations at PRX in Cambridge, MA. She is both a Moth story slam winner and producer as well as a published author. Gina is also an oral-history-gatherer, mom, friend, coach, sister, daughter, and a genuine lover of the spoken word.

Saxophonist extraordinaire, Allison Burik, is the musical guest for our special anniversary show. Burik attended Berklee College of Music and received her Bachelor's Degree in Performance in 2016. She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Contemporary Improvisation at the New England Conservatory while maintaining an active career as a performer. She seeks to explore differing worlds of sonic possibilities through her many projects. Burik has released a solo EP, “Some Days Like This,” (2019) a quartet album, “Mythos,” (2016) and an Umbrella Pine duo album (2019). Since arriving in Boston in 2013, Burik has become an internationally known artist, having performed in festivals, residencies, and concerts in places as far reaching as France, South Korea, and Canada.

Tickets are available at the door, but the show often sells out. Purchase reserved seating tickets at Eventbrite.
