This Celebration marks our national holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved Americans and invites everyone to come together to respect, honor and celebrate diverse cultures through food, music, dance and support of local black-owned businesses. This event will also showcase the variety of ways our Newton community promotes equity for residents and students of color.
Come and join us for an afternoon of family fun, with a DJ, vendors and kids' activities lined up. Bring a picnic or buy food from our vendors, Gourmet Kreyol and Tipping Cow. All are welcome!
Entertainment will be provided by:
NewCity Sound, formed with Rev. Devlin Scott from NewCity Church to perform at Blacknificence
Jen Aldana (@jenaldanamusic), a talented Boston-based singer-songwriter and winner of Season 5 “The Voice on Snapchat”
Jalen Williams, a local R&B and pop vocal artist
Caleb McCoy (@oakboymccoy), a dynamic artist born and raised in Dorchester, who draws on the rich storytelling of hip hop to create a sound where artistry meets advocacy. He has music on all digital platforms, and you can find it all by going to https://linktr.ee/oakboymccoy.
