Different perspectives will be brought together on the impacts of digital photography, social media culture, needs for visual expression of ideas, technical advances in capture, editing, and printing, changes in galleries and museum spaces, ubiquity of smart phone cameras, and other interests.
For example, just as the early 15th Century saw a sea change in the art of drawing, might the 21st Century see a blurring of lines between photography and digital art, or between static photography and short videography. What will a gallery look like? What will be collected?
Our inquiry has been inspired in parts by the work of our participants, the recent experiences of our NAA members, and the “Camera-Phone Conversations Between Artists” exhibit at NYC’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. Gallery directors, curators, photographers, teachers and students of photography, and all interested public are encouraged to attend.
