The Mad Monkfish is thrilled to announce that talented New York-based jazz singer, Vicki Burns, will be gracing the stage at Monkfish this September as a part of the club's new Sunday Afternoon Jazz Series. With recent sellout shows at Birdland and Mezzrow in New York City, Burns will arrive in Boston with her smooth vocals and captivating stage presence. Vicki is a true gem in the jazz world. Jazz fans won't want to miss this opportunity to see her perform live with Boston's own pianist Mark Shilansky, bassist John Lockwood and drummer Les Harris, Jr.
Born in Maine and schooled in New Hampshire, Burns, who lived in Boston when fresh out of college has a history in this market.
She opened for pianist Billy Taylor and drummer Max Roach at Jazz In July, performed at The Starlight Roof and appeared on WHDH TV with the drummer Alan Dawson. She also performed regularly with the Clayton Poole Orchestra and toured around New England as part of the New England Touring Arts program.

As a performer, Vicki Burns has been delighting audiences for years with her impeccable taste and glorious tone. She has performed at some of the top jazz clubs and festivals around the country including New York's Birdland, Iridium Jazz Club, Jazz at Kitano, The Lexington, The Plaza Hotel, Cornelia Street Café, Zinc Bar and Mezzrow, an iconic jazz jewel in the heart of Greenwich Village.
She has also performed at The Garden City in San Jose, The San Jose Museum of Art’s "Women in Jazz" Series as well as the San Jose Jazz Festival. She has also sung at The Great American Music Hall with the Oakland Jazz Choir, at Kimball’s East and at Fillmore Street Jazz Festival. In addition, she opened for Billy Taylor and Max Roach in the “Bright Moments” Concert series in Amherst, Massachusetts.
In Boston, where she was once featured on Ron Della Chiesa's famous "Music America," on GBH, she has also performed in the past at these clubs: Ryles, 1369 Club, The Starlight Roof and The Hilton Boston Back Bay.
Vicki has also produced three albums: Lotus Blossom Days, released in 2022, Live at Anna’s Jazz Island (2008) and Siren Song (2005).

Vicki Burns is truly a remarkable jazz singer with a wide-ranging voice and a talent for infusing each song with heartfelt expression. She has received high praise from critics and jazz enthusiasts alike for her crystal clear diction and her ability to sing with a sense of purpose. But Vicki Burns is not just a talented vocalist, she is also a gifted songwriter. She has produced three CDs as a leader, including "Siren Song" (2005), "Live at Anna's Jazz Island" (2008), and her latest release "Lotus Blossom Days" in 2022. Her music is full of surprises and uncharted delights, as Dr. Herbert Wong describes, "Avoiding the predictability of safe havens, her music brims with many more surprises and uncharted delights...
